Religion - Spiritual Baptists in Barbados

Indigenous to Barbados is the Spiritual Baptist religion. The sect was founded by Archbishop Granville Williams in 1957 and has grown to over 10,000 members. These members wear brightly coloured cloth worn tied around their heads and are commonly called tie-heads. Similar to most Baptist churches, new members are baptised by immersion in the coastal waters of Barbados. Like Rastafarianism, another religion indigenous to the Caribbean, Spiritual Baptists have a strong African influence. Services here involve singing and dancing.
