Retail Therapy – Souvenirs

When visiting any new location for a vacation, most persons seek to take home something with them that represents a little piece of the culture of the country they visited, or just to say “I was there”. In Barbados, there are many places island wide to purchase unique souvenirs. You can find the usual souvenirs such as lighters, key rings, t-shirts etc., but you can also purchase the handmade, locally created souvenirs that represent a unique memento of a once in a life time experience. Here are a few places where you can purchase souvenirs in Barbados.

Ganzee Shops

Ganzee Shops are located island wide and sell a variety of souvenirs including island apparel, caps, beach towels, photo frames, flip flops, shot glasses, post cards and much more.

Most of these shops can be found within several main shopping centers. Within these shopping centers are also a collection of other souvenir shops. These locations include:

  • Cave Shepherd
  • Bridgetown Cruise Terminal
  • Chattel House Villages
  • Tyrol Cot Heritage Village
  • Pelican Village
  • The Airport

 

Best of Barbados Gift Shops

With several locations island wide, the Best of Barbados Gift Shops sell local handicrafts that make perfect momentous of your trip to Barbados. From arts and craft to pottery, and from books with Barbadian recipes to locally made condiments, there is no shortage of souvenirs to pick up at the Best of Barbados Gift Shops.

Pottery Shops

There many pottery shops in Barbados that make excellent clay products. These include Chalky Mount Potteries, Earthworks Pottery, The Potter’s House and Red Clay Pottery and Fairfield Gallery. At these locations, you can find a variety of handcrafted items to take home for friends and family, for yourself as souvenirs, or simply for everyday use. Some items you will find include clay bowls, vases and dinnerware sets.

Earth & Fire Workshop

At this location, you can find various products that reflect the culture of Barbados and capture that tropical feeling. Many of their products include figurines, miniature chattel houses, candle holders and wind chimes. They also carry colorful hand painted pottery as well.

Tropical Art Glasses

Tropical Art Glasses produces fused glass creations, plates, bowls, platters, trays, picture frames and keepsake boxes. Their creations are fit for daily use and you can have a special piece custom designed, including sturdy glass face basins.

Cricket Legends of Barbados Museum

For cricket lovers, the Cricket Legends of Barbados Museum has a wide variety of cricket items that make great souvenir gifts for fans of all ages. On a visit to this location as well, you can view some of the best memorabilia donated by cricketers who have played for the West Indies.

Roslyn of Barbados

Roslyn of Barbados specializes in authentic Barbadian crafts and trendy local creations. Items include basketry, books, clothes, jewelry and pottery figurines.

Crystal Forms

Crystal Forms specializes in unique, fire formed contemporary jewelry, ornaments and paperweights, handcrafted from crystal using the process of lampworking. These unique products can be used as souvenirs, but their innovative jewelry make great gifts as well.

Medford Craft World

Medford Craft World creates and sells unique products made from the root of the mahogany tree. They sell numerous table centerpieces such as vases, Barbadian shaped products such as clocks and wine trays, and other ornamental items such as dolphins, flying fish and bookends. Thus, souvenirs purchased from Medford Craft World can be used for everyday use, or something simply to remember your trip by.

Many vendors in the area of The Barbados Cruise Terminal sell a variety of handcrafted clothing and locally made condiments. Similarly, Pelican Village comprises a collection of various crafts including custom made leather sandals or shoes, straw work, tie-dyed clothing and many popular condiments such as Bajan Hot Pepper Sauce. The Cave Shepherd Department Store also has its own little souvenir shop, where you can pick up t-shirts, key rings and local delicacies such as Bajan pepper sauce, mauby bark and tamarinds. However, if you did not have the opportunity to grab something on your visit, there are many stores at the airport that afford you the opportunity to grab a few last minute souvenir items.

Therefore, do not allow your visit come and go without visiting the many souvenir shops across the island. Pick up a memento of your trip, or maybe a token or two for the family and friends. Most importantly, do not forget to revisit the island again to pick up even more souvenirs and enjoy more wonderful experiences.
