We usually associate the beach with fun and playful activities with friends or as a place to lime and unwind after a long and stressful week. On evenings, the beach is turned into a hub of activity, as those who work during the day use the beach to get in a good workout and relieve the stress of the day. However, the beach can also be a very romantic spot for that first date, anniversary date or even a “no special occasion I just want to be with you date”. Here are a few suggestions on how to enjoy the company on your significant other on the beach.
Watch the sunset together
There is nothing more beautiful than watching a sunset on the beach, nor is there anything more romantic. It gives a feeling of peace and serenity and having your one and only in your arms can only enhance that feeling.
Suggestion: You can see the sunset from any beach in Barbados. So, this is all about preference.
Watch the sunrise together
What is the first thing most of us do when we wake up? Reach for our phones to call or message our significant other or roll over and kiss them good morning. Now imagine you and your one and only sitting on the beach watching as the sun rises signaling the beginning of a new day. Romantic, right?
Suggestion: Same as with Sunsets – its all about your preference.
Lie and watch the stars
Pack up some pillows, blankets and just lie in each other’s arms and watch the night sky illuminated by the stars above.
Suggestions: This goes without saying but, make sure outside is actually starry before doing this. Also, check the weather before leaving home.
Long walks on the beach
Stroll hand in hand with the sand beneath your toes and the water gently brushing against your feet as you listen to his corny jokes and you smile at her cute laugh. Enough said.
Suggestions: Any beach is good for this. However, if you prefer not to get your feet dirty, you can always take a stroll on the Boardwalk in Hastings, which has a nice ambiance for romance.
Romantic beachfront/waterside dining
Dining by the water’s edge is very romantic. You can enjoy the tranquility of the surrounding sea, or the waves crashing against the shore and it sets a wonderful ambiance for romance.
Suggestions: Cin Cin by the Sea and the Cliff Restaurant in St. James offer two of the best waterside dining experiences in Barbados.
Moonlight picnic
Aphrodisiacs anyone? If you prefer to keep it casual, you can set up a nice romantic picnic, whether during the day or at night for your partner. During the day may be safer, but setting an ambiance with candles and aphrodisiacs at night makes this a perfect option for you and yours.
Suggestions: Ideally, if doing this at night, choose a beach that is active yet safe enough that you don’t have to worry about someone attacking you, but not too active that your romantic setting will be disturbed. Also, check the tides in the area before choosing. You wouldn’t want everything to be swept away before you had a chance to enjoy it. And one last thing…don’t forget the wine!
Be playful
Take your partner snorkeling and diving to see reefs and shipwrecks below the surface of the ocean; making sand sculptures, go swimming and dancing, write cute love notes in the sand and make cool designs using footprints in the sand.
Suggestions: Choose a beach where the tide is low (when sculpting or writing in the sand). For those who are interested in the below water activities Folkestone Marine Park has an awesome dive site.
Cooking
What is more romantic that a guy cooking for his girl? A guy cooking for his girl on the beach.
Suggestions: This may require a bit more planning and equipment than a simple picnic or restaurant dining, but you can make this a part of a staycation experience. Just enquire with hotels about if they can set you up to do a simple dish or two on the beach and you are good to go. And…don’t forget the aphrodisiacs!
Bonfire
I challenge you to find something better than wrapping up with your partner on a chilly night beside a nice warm bonfire. The only issue with this is that some beaches prohibit bonfires.
Suggestions: Before making this plan, ensure that you have researched what is allowed and prohibited on the beach you are interested in. Being arrested together always looks more romantic in the movies than it really is!
Beach proposals
Planning to propose? Why not do it on the beach? You can write the proposal in the sand, hide the ring (in a cute seashell and not the sand because you actually want to find it later) or just get down on one knee against the wonderful backdrop of the sunrise or the sunset.
Get married
Beach weddings are becoming more and more popular for the modern couple, whether by day or at night. The beach makes a wonderful backdrop in your wedding photos, and can also be quite peaceful and intimate.
Suggestions: Research, research and research. It is very important to find out what the weather and the tides are going to be like. It may be best to have the wedding on the beach of a hotel so it can be more intimate and private.
Skinny dipping
I know you were waiting on this one. This can be very romantic but it isn’t the most practical thing to do, especially for safety reasons. Good luck with this one…
Remember, romance is not always about the big extravagant gestures or activities. Sometimes keeping it simple is the most romantic thing you can do as a couple. Remember, its the simple things in life than tend to bring the most joy.
