Flower Forest
Located on the property of a former sugar plantation, Flower Forest was first opened in 1985 and is ideal for nature lovers. The restoration of this property into a stunning 53.6-acre rainforest and botanical garden, offers persons a tropical paradise, within a tropical paradise. Birds and monkeys chattering is the only thing that breaks the tranquility of the atmosphere.
Flowers are in bloom yearly and are both native to the island and of an international species such as orchids, palms and ginger. Also, some of Barbados’ largest palm trees are found here. When you get tired, you can sit on the benches placed within the forest and just enjoy the peacefulness of the forest.
While the forest itself is amazing, you are able to see the most amazing views of the eastern coastline, so a camera is ideal for this tour. It is also a great place for special events, most notably weddings. So, for those looking for the ideal tropical experience for a destination wedding, you can choose to get married at Flower Forest. The location has the option of both an indoor and an outdoor wedding. Therefore, you have the option of the outdoor tropical wedding, but if for some reason the weather comes into play, you can get married inside the spacious pavilion.
Touring Flower Forest can be done either by yourself or with the help of a guide (at an additional cost). It is open daily form 8 am to 4 pm, except on Christmas Day and Good Friday.
Sam R "Beautiful!"
We spent a lovely couple of hours wandering through the gardens. We were the only ones there! The flowers and plants are beautiful, as are the views. There is also a lovely cafe. Really friendly staff. Well worth a visit.
Caribauthor “Always changing”
We visited The Flower Forest last year and this year we happily fulfilled an ambition to take our friends – very keen and expert gardeners – there as well. They and we were not disappointed. The variety of plants and shrubs is stunning. Everything is beautifully maintained whilst keeping a natural look – the whole is a true labour of love. Some of the paths can be a little steep and can also be slippery if wet but in most cases there are alternative routes. Be sure to take a camera though, because in addition to the plants and flowers there are some stunning vistas through the trees and bamboos, some views pierce across the gulley and others look way across the island to the Caribbean sea….
Alison G " Another World"
We didn’t know what to expect, so we were pleasantly surprised. It was like going into another world. Lots of lovely flowering shrubs/trees, species from all over the world. All labelled & informative. Lovely views as well from certain points. Lots of seats around so that you could sit & absorb it all. Well worth a visit.
