Classical Pops Barbados

Classical Pops Barbados

Classical Pops is an orchestra festival where there are performances of both popular classical music as well as contemporary music. This festival unites some of the most talented orchestra performers, pop and rock stars, Broadway performers and opera singers for one special event in the island of Barbados. Additionally, some of the most acclaimed orchestras including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and The Philadelphia Orchestra perform at this festival.

Founded in 2014, Classical Pops Barbados is the world’s premier Classical/Pops festival that usually occurs for a few days in December.  Previous editions featured a star studded line up with Grammy Award winning trumpeter Irvin Mayfield, Barbados’ Queen of Soca, Allison Hinds, renowned violinists, Tai Murray, Zach De Pue and Nick Kendall as well as Harpist Ann Hobdon Pilot.

This festival allows audiences to experience a truly unique blend of classical, contemporary, jazz, opera and world music in the stunning ambiance at Apes Hill Club in St. James. From the first edition in 2014, attendance of most audiences doubled in the second instalment in 2015. One of the highlights of last year’s festival was the performance of Audra McDonald (the most decorated Broadway star ever) accompanied by a full orchestra, a historical performance from Barbados’ very own The Mighty Gabby, as well as the Phantom of the Opera himself, Norm Lewis.

Dubbed as Barbados’ biggest concert experience, this one of a kind music festival picks up where it left off in 2015 to bring patrons another wonderful exhibition of classical and pop music. This year promises to be a blockbuster, with Cellist Vashti Hunte and Heather Headley, one of Broadway’s most beloved actresses, just a couple of those slated to perform.

Classical Pops Barbados is not only an event for lovers of music, specifically orchestra, but it is a great family event. Bring the family out for a night to remember at Apes Hill Club, the next time the Classical Pops Festival is in town.
