After long, hard workdays and weeks, locals need a break. However, with the tough economic times, some cannot always afford to travel abroad. Luckily, Barbados has great accommodation facilities island wide that tourists frequent for their vacations and locals can visit for their staycations. Below are some of the experiences of some locals who stayed at various hotels across the island…

… The rooms are lovely – large and airy, with comfortable beds and fantastic breezes and ocean views. We slept with the sound of the Atlantic ocean crashing onto the waves below… perfect relaxation! The staff were lovely – very helpful and friendly at all times. Despite a couple of hiccups … we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back – I wish I could say ‘regularly’ but it is a little on the pricey side, so probably no more than once a year. The setting is unbelievable and you really feel like you have travelled far, far from home. Highly recommended weekend break for residents!…

From the pictures I saw online I was I bit hesitant but the price was unbeatable. I think I got my money’s worth there. The food was tasty and the staff was helpful. There was a DJ by the pool side on the Saturday night and that was very entertaining. Guests were seen partying on the dance floor. The bar only supplied local alcohol but that wasn’t a problem for me because I didn’t want anything but their rum punch, which was very tasty.

I stayed here for 2 nights on a staycation. The hotel staff were friendly, the one bedroom suite was nice and the general appearance was warm and relaxing. The beach was lovely and quiet, very relaxing for a nice getaway without leaving Barbados.

Had a great time staff were very friendly…especially Kevin who made me laugh on every encounter. From most of my conversations with the staff I realized locals weren’t a regular thing but they made us feel as welcome and comfortable as possible. Enjoyed the water sports and the food. Rooms were kept very clean and the option of 2 televisions in a room was brilliant!!!!! I sleep like a baby and was very upset I had to eventually leave. However more channels could be provided for entertainment.

We stayed at Glitter Bay Suites apt 109 “sweeet fah Days” on a staycation local Caribbean rate. The apartment was well equipped cable tv in the lounge and second bedroom. Its on the ground floor and a gate on the patio so you are 30 paces away from the pool. Free high speed wifi; they even had a laptop in the apartment to use. The guest room has 3 single beds ideal for the kids with lots of room. The beach has to be one of the best in Barbados and all the staff were friendly and helpful.

Had an awesome time at home away from home! The stay at Hilton B’dos was an really nice experience. It was my daughter’s 11th birthday and seeing we couldn’t travel, the staycation was our next option. I can’t wait to do it again. The staff were all friendly. our room was clean, nice and comfy and relaxing. The breakfast was good and it wasn’t necessary to have lunch thereafter. The birthday plate in the room after we had finished the pool etc was a really sweet surprise for my daughter, no pun intended. The view from our room was also amazing, by day and by night. I will be returning to the Hilton Barbados Resort!!

Just returned from a family staycation , we had an enjoyable time at the resort. On arrival the front desk clerk Carol greeted and checked us in and we were taken to our room…The staff in all departments were friendly and helpful…The meals were great thumbs up to the chef and his team for wonderful work. We had a superior garden view. The room from bed to bath was perfect, spacious and had a lovely decor. We had a lovely king size bed and 2 twin beds for kids. On arrival to the room it was spotless …we loved our room only fault was no wifi in it. The kids enjoyed the pool…What a ball thanks again to all the staff ……. see you all soon again.
Mango Bay Resort

After our third stay in 2 years we highly recommend Mango Bay Resort as a great getaway for visitors and Bajans. Hidden at the end of 2nd Street, it is in the middle of the Holetown restaurant and shipping area while at the same time being a quiet, relaxing beach front idyll. Mango Bay is an all-inclusive hotel with great food (four meals a day!) and complimentary drinks, and the most welcoming, obliging staff ! All water sports including a catamaran trip to swim with the turttles, glass-bottom boat ride, paddle & sail boats and kayaks are included, or you can just lull by the sea or the pool. Very clean, roomy accommodation with sea views and open air dinning, bar and nightly entertainment. Kudos to the management for maintaining such high standards !
Ocean 15 Hotel

I’m a local and I was looking to try out my first staycation here on the island as opposed to traveling. I saw Ocean 15 and decided to go have a viewing of the rooms which was allowed and immediately fell in love. All of the staff I met were very warm and friendly and everyday the housekeeper would visit to clean or ask me if I needed anything. The room had all I needed, nice furniture and very clean with towels changed regularly as well as extra soap provided when needed…. The food at Ocean 15 was good, again, friendly bartenders who made you feel comfortable. I have recommended and would go again….
Rostrevor Hotel

My boyfriend and I stayed at Rostrevor for a weekend as part of my birthday celebrations… We chose this hotel because it was just want we wanted – something simple yet nice and reasonably priced. We had the superior deluxe ocean view room with a king bed, on the top floor just like I requested…The view was amazing…The room was well furnished and has basically everything you need, although we had no need for the kitchen. We had breakfast at the on-property restaurant as it was included….Overall, we had a great weekend at Rostrevor. If I had to complain about anything, it would be that the showers could do with a curtain or glass door or something to prevent the water from getting on the floor…
Saint Peter’s Bay

As Barbadian locals we can enjoy from time to time the beauty of our island through visitors’ eyes. We just completed a fabulous weekend at St. Peter’s Bay. The rooms were spectacular in every sense. Gilbert made me a memorable Pina Colada for my birthday. Juliet accommodated my vegetarian needs with a delicious vegetable stir-fry and salad. Our family shared some fun times on the canoe, paddle board and snorkeling the area. The boys even caught a few waves!
We highly recommend this property where everyone in the team greets you with warmth and hospitality. As a local we have visited and know personally many of the hotels on the island. You are definitely making a wise choice when you book St. Peter’s Bay. Well done St. Peter’s Bay team!

Tamarind provided excellent service to my elderly and somewhat disabled mum, cousin and me as we went on a Staycation to celebrate her birthday. Guest Relations Manager was really helpful and had wheel chair ready on arrival and water sports guys helped her in and out of the sea. Beware that the beach has a dip when you go into the water so getting in and out can be difficult. Everyone was friendly and welcoming …made us feel at home. Room looked new with bright decor and it was spacious with huge walk in closet that is great for three adults sharing a room. We had a lovely tea ….well priced with visiting friends to celebrate the birthday and tasty buffet lunch with family on Sunday with a wide range of dishes. Property is well ramped and tub was low enough for Mum to get in and out easily. Our room opened out onto a beautiful garden with mature trees and then straight onto the beach and was near pool and dining area. Lovely!

As you can appreciate, the only time we had to leave our room was for breakfast, lunch and dinner, after all it was our honeymoon and we had a marvelous weekend. It was not necessary to eat anything in between, the breakfast buffet had something for everyone and still some. Lunch was equally filling and dinner as well….I must say again our room was lovely, sea view, cable tv, air condition, everything you needed, and very spacious….
Hopefully these reviews should help you choose a nice location for your next staycation!
