Religion - Barbados Religion
In Barbados, it is said that you can find a church on every corner. It is easy to see that religion plays a major role in our society. Even Crop Over was originally a religious celebration - Thanking God for the year's harvest.
Steaped in spirituality, there are numerous religious groups across the island comprising of both christian and non-christian; and places of worship vary from the splendid coral stone structures of earlier centuries to the simple chattel houses. Some even use unoccupied spaces in closed businesses and schools - where ever they can find to praise their respective gods.
The first settlers to Barbados came with their Anglican beliefs. As they settled in various areas of the island, they built churches for worship. Christian/Anglican is considered the national religion. It is for this reason that you will find an Anglican parish church as well as smaller Anglican churches in each parish across the island. To this day, it is still the most popular denomination on the island.
